To All Clients and Server Users:

We have recently identified a concerning pattern involving the use of AI-powered development tools (such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar assistants) connected directly to server environments.

To date, we have documented three separate incidents where AI assistants have caused significant damage to production servers. Each incident followed a similar pattern: the AI was given a routine task but executed unintended destructive commands due to a lack of contextual understanding of server architecture.

In the most recent case, an AI assistant was troubleshooting a minor authentication issue and executed what it believed to be a harmless cleanup command. The AI did not recognize that the directory it was targeting contained shared system files critical for multiple websites - it was not isolated to the single site being worked on. This resulted in the permanent deletion of configuration files across several domains, leading to widespread errors and site downtime.

These incidents are not isolated, and we anticipate the frequency will increase as AI tools become more widely adopted without proper safeguards.

:warning: URGENT WARNING :warning:

We strongly recommend AGAINST connecting AI assistants or automated tools directly to your server with file system access.

AI tools can:

  • Delete or overwrite critical system and configuration files without warning

  • Modify or remove data across multiple sites and databases

  • Execute destructive commands with unintended consequences

  • Bypass standard safeguards that human administrators would typically observe

While AI assistants can be helpful for coding and general troubleshooting, they lack the contextual understanding of server architecture, shared resources, and the full impact of their actions on production environments.

Three incidents are already enough. We urge you to act now to prevent a fourth.

For Future Reference

If you require assistance with:

  • Server configuration

  • Authentication and security issues

  • Troubleshooting website errors

  • Any other technical tasks

Please contact our support team directly. We will handle these matters professionally and safely.

Fee for AI-Related Incident Recovery

Effective immediately, any server recovery or data restoration required due to AI-related incidents (including but not limited to accidental deletions, misconfigurations, or data corruption caused by AI tools) will be subject to a $100 service fee per incident.

This fee covers:

  • Investigation and diagnosis of the issue

  • Restoration of affected files and configurations

  • Verification of site functionality

  • Implementation of safeguards to prevent recurrence

This fee is not intended as a penalty but to cover the significant time and expertise required to repair damage that AI tools can inadvertently cause.

Our Recommendation

Do not attach AI assistants to your live server.

If you choose to use AI tools for development work, we recommend:

  1. Use a local development or staging environment - never production

  2. Restrict file system permissions - AI should not have write access

  3. Review every command before execution

  4. Have a human verify all actions AI proposes to take

We are here to help you maintain secure, stable, and reliable server environments. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
