Understanding Cloud Services: SaaS vs PaaS vs IaaS

"Understanding Cloud Services: SaaS vs PaaS vs IaaS "

IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service
PaaS - Platform as a Service
SaaS - Software as a service

IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
In this model, you do not have to purchase or maintain IT hardware or data center space within your organization. You simply pay for the resources you use. IaaS provides virtualized computing resources such as servers, storage, networking, and other infrastructure components on a pay-as-you-go basis over the internet.

PaaS (Platform as a Service)
In this model, you do not need to manage the underlying infrastructure, such as servers, storage, or networks. Instead, you pay for the platform services that you use to develop, run, and manage applications. PaaS provides a ready-to-use environment with tools, libraries, and frameworks for application development and deployment, accessible over the internet on a pay-as-you-go basis.

SaaS (Software as a Service)
In this model, you do not need to install, maintain, or manage any software applications on your local systems. You only pay for the software you use, typically through a subscription. SaaS delivers fully functional software applications over the internet, accessible from any device, with maintenance, updates, and infrastructure handled by the service provider.

Basic Example: Suppose you want to make Biryani.

  1. SaaS (Software as a Service) - You order Biryani. You don’t have to worry about cooking, ingredients, or the kitchen. Everything is done for you, and you just enjoy the final product.
  2. PaaS (Platform as a Service) -You want to make Biryani. Someone provides you with a ready-to-use kitchen (oven, mixer, basic tools), and maybe even some basic ingredients. You focus only on cooking the Biryani.
  3. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)-You rent an empty kitchen space. You have to bring all your appliances (like gas, etc.), buy the ingredients, cook the Biryani, and do all the cleaning yourself. You manage everything except the basic infrastructure (the kitchen space).
